New York\’s Christmas Festivities

Did work, preparing for the holidays, and other responsibilities cause you to miss out on the Christmas festivities around New York?

No worries the following events will be available for your enjoyment until January.

Bronx

The New York Botanical Garden annual Holiday Train Show will be available for viewing until 1/21/19. The theme is NYC’s Landmarks and it’s featuring sites like the Empire State Building. The entire 150-piece display is created from leaves, barks, and other natural materials.

A Storybook Christmas at Bartow Pell Mansion Museum located at 895 Shore Road. The museum is lined with Christmas trees modeled after stories from children’s books. For more information visit www.bpmm.org.

History of the Holidays at Van Cortlandt House located at West 246 Street and Broadway in the Cortlandt Park.
This historical house, which was built in the 18th century, is one of the oldest buildings left in the Bronx. Both the interior and exterior of the house is adorned to showcase how people decorated for Christmas during the 18th century.

Manhattan
Take a stroll and enjoy the window displays of the stores that line 5th Avenue. Some of the more outstanding presentations are:

Bergdorf Goodman which is between 57th and 58th Streets. Their theme is Bergdorf Goodies which features all types of enchanting sweets.

Tiffany & Co. on 57th Street. The topic is Holiday Hero from 1960. Also, be sure to go inside. The interior is decorated just as beautiful as their windows.

Saks 5th Avenue located between 49th and 50th Streets. The theme is Theater of Dreams which has actual performers. But hurry, the last showing is January 2, 2019.

While in the area visit the Rockefeller Center to take selfies in front of the icon Christmas Tree. You will also be amazed by the gigantic Christmas decorations that are located throughout midtown Manhattan. If you enjoy ice skating, don’t forget about the famous Ice Rink located in the Rockefeller Center.

Kwanzaa 2018 is a free event sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History on December 29, 2018.
The principles of Kwanzaa will be demonstrated. The audience will be able to participate in activities and purchase items from vendors.

Brooklyn
Dyker Heights Holiday Lights. Watch in awe as this neighborhood sponsor its own Christmas lights fight. There are 22 blocks of over the top displays which start at Dyker Heights Boulevard from 83rd to 86th Streets. The houses and displays are lit up from 5 pm to 9pm daily. However, the weekend is the best time to visit.

You can do your own walking tour or book with a touring company. The displays are available until the last day in December. For more information google Dyker Heights Holiday Lights.

Winterfest at the Brooklyn Museum located in Prospect Heights.
Interact with life size displays including the world’s largest snowman to date. Everyday there are live performances. If you forgot to get a gift for a love one, you are bound to find something from one of their many vendors.
The Winterfest is available until December 31, 2018.

Staten Island
New to the Big Apple is The NYC Winter Lantern Festival at Sung Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island.
The festival features over 40 larger-than-life LED displays like the interactive Tunnel of Lights. Enjoy the
